Coming in Fall 2021 to Old Town Erie
All are welcome – this is your club. Step in and escape for an hour or two. Ease into a comfy chair and let the cares of the day wash away. This is your place to unwind, relax, and indulge your senses. This is wine and whiskey, all at once upscale and laid back; casual and unpretentious. A wide variety of wines, old favorites, new discoveries. Spirits poured neat, on the rocks, or mixed into creative cocktails. Sumptuous snacks, perfect pairings. Come as you are – all are welcome. This is Erie Social Club – a wine bar for you, for all, inspired by a little old mining town.
As we get closer to our Grand Opening we want to introduce ourselves and give some background on Erie Social Club. We’re The Varnadoe Family, and we moved to Colorado from Florida in 2016 after falling in love with the small-town feel in Erie while looking for a great community close to the mountains.
ESC’s owner and visionary, Nick Varnadoe, has loved watching Erie grow, and wants to be a part of enhancing what the community has to offer by creating a new bar and eatery where friends and family can come to relax and have a good time. We are so excited to start serving you soon!
Nick is Erie Social Club’s owner and proprietor, husband to Maggie, and Varnadad to Katie and Chris. Nick has been dreaming of opening a bar for years, and we are all so excited to see his dream become a reality. Nick is new to the restaurant industry, but can more than make up for it with his charisma, passion, and willingness to learn. Fun fact: Nick and Maggie worked for Disney (where they met) for about 25 years before moving to Colorado, and Nick’s first job was as a Jungle Cruise Skipper so he’s always ready to entertain (and has great Dad jokes) to keep you company at ESC!
Maggie is ESC’s owner and resident yoga teacher who hopes to bring some special classes for Socialites to the bar when she isn’t already teaching barre, spin or yoga at the Erie Community Center or working her full-time job as a Marketing Director (is there anything she can’t do??). She makes a mean mint julep, so keep a lookout for it as a great specialty drink option!
Chris and Sierra joined the family in Colorado in 2020 after moving from Jacksonville, Florida to Lafayette, Colorado. Chris works for BVSD and Sierra is with Boulder Medical Center, so you know Erie Social Club will be giving plenty of thanks to our local teachers and healthcare workers once we open! Chris and Sierra love exploring Colorado on the weekends, and will frequently be trying out whatever new specials are on the menu at ESC!
Katie is our self-proclaimed social media specialist for ESC as the youngest and most Instagram-influenced of our family. She just graduated from Mines and is working in Boulder, but will be frequenting the Club for some good desserts and charcuterie boards with her boyfriend, Eli who is a Mines grad turned PhD student at CU Boulder. Katie is our Disney-obsessed, bargain-hunting daughter who loves spending her free time grocery shopping and baking non-dairy treats. Be sure to try her bread pudding if it’s ever on the menu!
Ollie is the family grand doggie and takes full advantage of Nick and Maggie when he visits Erie for maximum petting and treats. He has a pretty awesome collection of bandanas to elevate his style, and is always looking for new friends to chase squirrels with.
Sparky and Trixie joined the Varnagang in 2016 as rescue dogs from the Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado. While we aren’t sure exactly what mix of breeds they are, they’re 100% Varnadoes and we love them with 110% of our hearts. They’re littermates who might look alike, but have VERY different personalities. Trixie is our princess puppy and loves getting love from everyone. Sparky is our scaredy-dog with a heart of gold who loves protecting our yard from skunk intruders (but that’s a story for another day). They’re big fans of puppacinos from Erie’s coffee shops, and love walking around Old Town.
